About Bob Kathman

After attending The Rhode Island School of Design and The College of Charleston, SC, I transferred back to my home state of Maryland. I earned my BFA in General Fine Arts at The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore (MICA, where my grandfather studied Architecture) and began working for The Frederick County Public School System as a Graphic Designer/Illustrator/Photographer in their Media Arts Department. I also did freelance art for newspapers, comics and ads for local businesses.

My art career took a turn when I took a job closer to home at Microprose Software, creating screens, icons, backgrounds, textures and concept art for 7, shipped, PC game titles. My freelance art changed too when I created covers for a national magazine (Shocked & Amazed) and was the co-editor for a comic anthology called Flock of Dreamers, that was internationally published. I'm a member of IASD, The International Association for the Study of Dreams.

We moved to California in 2001 and I joined the EverQuest Online Adventures game team at Sony Online Entertainment in San Diego. The team produced 2, shipped, PlayStation2 titles. When we moved to Los Angeles, I did graphics and art for The Jimmy Kimmel Live Show in Hollywood and archived photographs for The NFL in Culver City. Later, I was a Sign Maker for Whole Foods and got to make signs all over the city and surrounding areas.

I currently work as an artist at Golden Hippo in Woodland Hills making animations, illustrations and graphics. I still do freelance & my own projects at home. I'm a member of SCBWI, the Society of Children's Book Writers and IllustratorsMy wife, actress Patty Sherman and I live in Los Angeles with The Curly Tail Club; our rescued dogs.
